Asus Transformer browser lag fix

There is an issue with browser lag, particularly text input, on the Asus Transformer. To fix this type about:debug in the address bar and hit go. It will appear nothing has happened but you will find some extra options crop up in the top right option menu. It will also enable some extra bits in the settings menu, what you want to deselect is the ‘Enable OpenGL Rendering’ option. This should greatly improve browser lag. I’ll probably enable again after any updates just incase the OpenGL rendering is fixed as some things like scrolling seem to be accelerated with OpenGL enabled. To hide the extra options again simply re-enter about:debug.

Found these two trying to make it to higher ground in the garden but the stairs proved too much.

firefox color management again

I just had a particularly frustrating evening trying to figure out why my photos where looking like crap after uploading them to flickr. After much time spent trying to fix the problem trying all sorts of different colour space settings it turned out to be a problem with firefox. It looked like smooth colour gradients had extreme amounts of jpg artifacting. Eventually (after exhausting every colour space, compression and resizing option) I tried viewing the images using a different browser to find that they were being displayed perfectly. So I disable the gfx.color_management.mode (see here for my previous post regarding firefox colour management) in about:config, restart firefox and all is displayed as normal (everything being sRGB). After re-enabling this option all images are still displaying perfectly again. I don’t know what it was that broke firefox’s colour management but all is well again.

Here is the image that really showed up the noise.

New CPL for my 24-70mm L

I just got a 77mm B+W CPL Filter for use on my 24-70mm L lens. Fortunately I had some beautiful clear blue sky to give it a quick test yesterday morning.

(apologies for the banding in the sky, blame flickr and it’s less than desirable compression. the original does not exhibit any banding)

Brighton Racecourse Bokeh

A bit of abstract bokeh.

DoF(ence)

Just playing with the 70-200mm L. I love how sharp this lens is wide-open
